About

About

Shepherd Moon is an independent publishing house based in Sydney, working across books, audio, and visual projects. We collaborate with writers, musicians, and visual artists to make small-run editions that showcase Australian culture and stay close to the communities they come from.

The press began with a focus on preserving and reissuing classic Australian literature. That work continues, but the catalogue has grown to include contemporary writing, live recordings, photobooks, and experimental projects that document how stories sound, look, and feel right now, in venues, studios, and streets, as much as on the page.

Named after the moons that quietly shape and hold planetary rings in place, Shepherd Moon works in a similar register: supporting and amplifying work that might otherwise sit just outside the spotlight, while keeping it grounded in real rooms and relationships.

Our Vision

To build a living catalogue of independent culture,  in print, sound, and image, and to foster a community of readers, listeners, and artists who value careful, independent work.

What We Do

  • Publish books and editions
From overlooked classics to new writings, we produce carefully designed books intended to last and to be read, shared, and revisited.

  • Develop audio and visual projects
We create live recordings, studio sessions, and visual works that document independent artists and local scenes.

  • Work with communities and collaborators
We partner with artists, venues, galleries, and organisations on publications and events that feel rooted in place rather than in trends.

  • Curate with care
Every project is selected and developed slowly, with attention to context, design, and the people involved.

Join Us

Whether you come to Shepherd Moon as a reader, listener, artist, venue, or curious neighbour, you’re invited to explore the work, attend a gathering, or reach out about a project. The catalogue is growing, but the aim stays simple: to develop meaningful stories, in all their forms, in circulation.
